According to Ayurvedic philosophy, ojas is the life-sustaining vitality that promotes immunity in the body. Ojas can keep you healthy during flu season and prevent depletion during a stretch of overtime at work. It takes a long time to build this nourishing substance, but, in our fast-paced, over scheduled, and under-rested lives, it can get spent quickly. Here are a few ideas for building more ojas.
It is cooling to the body and adds nourishing fats to the diet in an easily digestible manner. It is usually consumed freshly prepared and combined with flavorings like saffron and cardamom and sweetened with a natural sweetener like raw sugar.
Commercial almond milk has too many unnecessary additives like added vitamins and preservatives that take away the nourishing properties of this beverage.
A blend of hydrated almonds and water in a ratio of 1 : 1 and 1/2 cups yields a delicious light milk, not too thin or thick. This can be stored in the fridge for 4-5 days and used as a drink or add-in for oatmeal and smoothies.
If I am making a large size like 32oz bottle of almond milk, I use about one cup of soaked almonds. and 2 cups of clean fresh water.
1 cup of soaked almonds.
2 or 1.5 cup of fresh water
1 pinch of saffron
1/2 tsp cardamom
5 dates – no seeds (or more if you like it sweeter)
Blend all ingredients. Filter it, if you like it smooth texture.
